Manfrotto 502 MVH502AH flat-base fluid video head

When to choose it
Choose the MVH502AH if you film with a flat-top tripod or compatible slider and want to tune the resistance of a pan or tilt. The sliding plate helps move the assembled camera forward or back before you lock it. Fit the handle on the side that leaves the controls and cables accessible in your setup.
Check the last letter of the model before ordering. Manfrotto's manual identifies the MVH502AH as the flat version with a 3/8-inch female attachment and the MVH502A as the 75 mm bowl version. The counterbalance spring is fixed. If you regularly switch between substantially different rigs, compare a head with adjustable counterbalance.

Fit and buying advice
Check the assembled rig's weight and center of gravity together. The manual describes the spring balance at a specified height and the current page presents several load figures under different headings.
Care Manfrotto's manual shows how to move the plate to balance the rig and how to fit the handle on either side. Support the camera while moving or unlocking the plate.

Questions about this accessory
Does AH mean the base drops into a 75 mm bowl?
No. The AH model uses a female 3/8-inch thread on a flat support. The A model without H is the one described for a 75 mm bowl.
Can I change pan resistance without changing tilt resistance?
Yes. The head has separate continuously adjustable drag for those movements.
Does sliding the plate change the spring setting?
The plate changes the camera position on the head. The counterbalance spring remains fixed, so how the rig sits matters as well as what it weighs.
