Choosing fluid video heads

Check the base before you compare drag

A flat support with a stud and a tripod with a bowl accept different attachments. Verify whether the selected version needs a thread, bowl or documented adapter.

Match the counterbalance to the assembled rig

Count the lens, cage and accessories as used. Compare adjustable drag separately from the spring that helps balance tilt, then check the maker's conditions for its counterbalance rating.

Department questions

Is a 75 mm base diameter the same as a 75 mm bowl?

A flat base can have that diameter. Look for a specification that identifies an actual half-ball or a threaded flat mount.

Does a higher load rating guarantee better balance?

Check the counterbalance range and the reference height of the center of gravity. A load can sit differently when a cage or lens moves its weight farther from the head.

Why does plate length matter?

A sliding plate gives room to adjust the rig's position before locking. Confirm it fits the actual receiver and clears attached accessories.
