Manfrotto XPRO MHXPRO-BHQ2 ball head with 200PL-14 plate

When to choose it
The XPRO ball head suits a photographer who moves between horizontal and vertical framing and wants to reposition the camera without turning three separate axis handles. Use the friction control to set how freely the ball moves before locking it. A separate pan lock lets you turn the head on its base without releasing the ball.
Look at the code on your spare plate before buying. This is the version with the Manfrotto 200PL-14 receiver and plate. Underneath, the head has a 3/8-inch female thread for the stud on a flat support. The release has a safety lever, which is useful when you swap between two cameras already fitted with the correct plates.

Fit and buying advice
Match your flat support's stud and your plate model separately. The operating guide and newer safety-standard table use different payload figures, so check the instructions for the unit you receive before pairing it with a heavy rig.
Care Manfrotto instructs you to keep a hand on the camera when operating the release lever. Push the lever fully home after inserting the plate and check that the camera is secure.

Questions about this accessory
Can I pan without loosening the ball?
Yes. Once your framing tilt is locked, the separate pan lock lets you rotate the base while keeping the ball in place.
Will it take the plate from an XPRO with an Arca-type clamp?
Check the plate model. This head ships with the 200PL-14 system. The XPRO name alone does not tell you which receiver is on the head.
When is the XPRO three-way head a better fit?
Use separate axis controls when you routinely adjust one direction while leaving the others locked, such as when squaring up a product shot.
