How to choose tripod feet and parts for low setups

Check the part that attaches to the tripod, then decide how much room you need on the surface or below the legs. A good match depends on both fit and how you shoot.

Check removable feet by model and thread

Find the foot specification in the tripod's instructions before comparing rubber, spikes or combinations. For a full replacement, count the number of feet included in the selected set.

Allow space under a leveler

A short handle may help when a tripod sits close to the ground. Match the bowl diameter before comparing handle length and check the receiver above the leveler separately.

Read the column name as well as its diameter

A tilt adapter may be made for a particular series. Confirm what column the adapter needs and what hardware is already part of the tripod before deciding how to position the camera.

Guide questions

Should I use the same foot indoors and outside?

Compare the contact with your surface. Rubber and exposed spikes serve different purposes, and some models give you both in one foot.

Is a 100 mm bowl model suitable for 75 mm legs?

Only use a model or adapter documented for the actual bowl and upper interface. Similar-looking leveling bases can use different diameters.

Why check the column hardware after measuring?

Diameter does not describe every lock or support surface. Check the maker's model list for the exact adapter.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. For compatible removable 3/8-inch Gitzo feet, the GS5030VSF lets you change ground contact without swapping the feet. Pick the rubber setting for a surface that a spike could mark.

  2. The short-handle YB-100SK helps when a confirmed 100 mm bowl sits close to the ground. Compare the space under the bowl with the full locking assembly, not just the size of the bowl.

  3. Use the HX-28 for a compatible 28 mm LX-series column when you need to move the camera away from the tripod centerline. Check the exact column series even if another column shares the diameter.

  4. The GSF30S and GSF38S both include a short spike. Choose the smaller or larger cap for the room you need. The GSF50 has a broader articulated contact patch if you primarily want the wide pad.
